COP 29

COP 29

Patience Nabukalu attended the World Leaders Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan, (COP29) , she committed to advocating for bold climate action, with a particular focus on ending fossil fuel reliance in Africa and protecting vulnerable communities like in Uganda from the worsening impacts of climate change. This summit represented a critical opportunity to amplify African voices and push for the urgent investments needed in renewable energy, which shapes the future for generations to come. With the climate crisis escalating, it is crucial that we work together to shift from fossil fuels to sustainable, renewable sources of energy. The choices we make now will determine the survival of countless communities and ecosystems, especially in regions most affected by climate change. COP29 marks the last chance for global leaders to commit to emission reductions in line with the 1.5°C target outlined in the UNFCCC’s Paris Agreement, before the next Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are due in February 2025. she was eager to foster partnerships that will drive immediate, meaningful change for a more sustainable, equitable future for all.
